The Ownership Revolution: What You Need To Win Today
Growing up I thought life had a similar path for all of us.
Learn skills in school. Figure out what you’re good at. Find a job. Get promoted. And retire.
So that’s what I did. But the idea of doing something “for a living” is actually kinda crazy. So at some point I started to see other options.
Life is so much more than what we do for work. Life can be easy, effortless and enjoyable.
Yet, for the longest time I thought it needed to be difficult, stressful and challenging That I needed to “work hard”.
Why was that?
I don’t like when books give history lessons right away, but bear with me.
This is important stuff (and I wrote it as short as possible).
What It Was Like
Way way way back everyone had to fend for themselves. There was very little commerce in the world of early hunter-gatherers.
Then the world changed.
Way, way back, every person who worked simply solved a problem for other people in the village in exchange for some other value.
Picture those old school villages in a classic Disney movie. Because these tales are designed to be timeless, they take place in a vaguely defined time between the 5th to 17th centuries. Or the “olden days” as our daughter might call them. Castles, knights, the odd dragon and rural village life that would include many roles like: blacksmith, baker, tailor, innkeeper, farmer, merchant, herbalist, carpenter, miller, cobbler, fisherman, weaver, chandler, potter, brewer, butcher, bookbinder, toymaker, musician, and teacher.
Then the world changed again.
Way back, technology advanced to create more efficient farming and eventually the industrial revolution. Improvements in transportation led to bigger factories, instead of tiny shops. And mass production machines made things faster and cheaper.
Then the world changed yet again.
The internet, devices and globalization led to instant and unlimited amounts of knowledge in the information age. Analytics, wireless, cloud computing and social media increased flexibility and the ability to learn anything from anywhere.
As I write this it’s kind of fun because I’m able to talk about how the world is changing yet again. Information is old news, because there is already so much knowledge out there.
All of the knowledge you need to be successful is available at your fingertips for free.
Why Do The Rich Get Richer?
I’m not sure where the saying comes from, but we’ve all heard it. “The rich get richer.”
But why does this happen?
It all boils down to one word. Control. People with money control assets, opportunities, and their futures. They build brands and awareness while many of us get stuck trying to play catch-up.
It’s not a conspiracy; it’s just math. Ownership leads to compounding gains over the course of a lifetime, or even generations that perpetuate a cycle of success. Meanwhile, the rest struggle in a system that often feels rigged. Because it was rigged. But not anymore.
This is a massive, modern silver lining.
You can start playing smarter, owning more, and controlling what matters in your life. And no one can stop you because we are in the ownership age.
No more excuses.
You get to choose your own path. No more gatekeepers.
Yet schools still play a role in brainwashing you.
Making you do “busy work”.
Rewarding things like writing with big words, or silent listening.
And organizing human beings by rows, bells and grades.
Now it may still be worth it to play the game.
But play it with awareness.
Play it on purpose.
Be aware that these rewards mean nothing in the real world.
